Target Group

This course targets those individuals and organizations that have a role in delivering public transport to developing cities. Such actors may include:

• Local, regional, and national political officials

• Local regional, and national technical staff

• Local and international consultants

• Non-governmental organizations

• Academic staff and researchers

• Private sector operators and technology firms

• Multi-lateral and bi-lateral international organizations

Methods

The training includes expert presentations, exercises, moderated discussions and case studies.

Goal

The course aims to provide municipality staff, national Government planners and policy -makers, consultants, and international actors with an overview of important bus reform elements, such as bus planning, regulation, and operation. It provides information on how to restructure formal urban bus transport, improve service quality and set service level benchmarks. Further more better integration among formal bus services and with informal transport and NMT is dealt with. Dive-in subjects may include the planning and implementation of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems as well as Bus Regulation and Planning. It can be complemented, in modular form, with any of the other courses.
