Tactical Urbanism at Ro Ro Jetty

Tactical Urbanism at Ro Ro Jetty was organized as one of the components of the ‘Reimaging Fort Kochi Project’ under the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI) Challenge. The TU proposal for Ro-Ro jetty node was developed and implemented on trial basis by TUMI partner World Resources Institute India (WRI) India, under the leadership of Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Cochin Smart Mission Limited (CSML) as a part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ event. It used a people-centric approach that included both physical interventions as well as stakeholder consultations to create improved accessibility and enhanced public spaces in Fort Kochi RoRo jetty node. The event worked towards re-defining of traffic circulation pattern along with transit entry-exit points; defining pedestrian walkways & key crossing points; identifying residual/unused public spaces & assigning functions with the provision of shades, street furniture, and re-defining parking zones. The project will be taken further for permanent implementation as a part of ‘Area Based Development’ interventions under Smart City Program.
