E-Bus Mission City Dialogue & Encuentro de Ciudades Sostenibles

From November 8. – 10, the event ‘Encuentro de Ciudades Sostenibles’ took place in Mexico City, organized by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Mexico, which works on behalf of the German government and the European Union. Its goal was to promote cooperation and synergies between the public and private sector, civil society, and academia to strengthen public action in Mexico and push for financing and sustainability instruments. More than 30 Mexican cities participated in the 3-day event. The sessions included a mix of presentations, discussions, and case studies to facilitate capacity building, knowledge sharing and partnership development.

Within this framework, TUMI partners ICLEI and UITP facilitated the TUMI E-Bus Mission City Dialogue on ‘Multilateral cooperation and capacity building for the adoption of electric buses in Mexico’.

TUMI E-Bus Mission City Dialogue

In the City Dialogue of the TUMI E-Bus Mission, the deep dive cities Mexico City, Guadalajara and Monterrey, which are supported by TUMI E-Bus Mission partners C40, ITDP and WRI, shared their experiences with E-buses. The representatives from the TUMI E-Bus Mission Network in Mexico (Aguascalientes, Coahuila, León, Oaxaca, Saltillo, Puebla, Sonora, and the state of Mexico) used the opportunity to learn directly from practitioners. All presentations can be found at the Global Knowledge Hub of the TUMI E-Bus Mission.

Mobility Efficiency and Digitalisation

The event ‘Encuentro de Ciudades’ offered a space for exchanging experiences and success stories from local to national perspectives in the fields of urban development, sustainable urban mobility, plastic waste management and climate actions. Among other things, the event highlighted the most important aspects of smart mobility in Mexican cities and promoted the exchange of experiences on public and private initiatives to promote innovation and digitalization in urban mobility. A focus was placed on digital tools that can make a significant contribution to more efficient, sustainable urban mobility. TUMI participated in the session, introducing the TUMI Mobility Data Hub and presenting the use cases of the pilot cities.

The session provided important insights into the needs of urban stakeholders and showed that this emerging field is strongly developing in Mexico.[1]
In cooperation with CAF - Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina, TUMI is supporting Mexico City in analyzing data on the quality of the city's BRT system through a web application, which will be accessible through the TUMI Mobility Data Hub in the beginning of 2023.
