EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK (EMW) is the European Commission’s flagship awareness-raising campaign on sustainable urban mobility. It promotes behavioural change in favour of active mobility, public transport, and other clean, intelligent transport solutions. This year’s European Mobility Week took place in almost 3.000 cities in 51 countries all around Europe.

Despite the ongoing war, 5 Ukrainian cities took part in the initiative. In Lviv, participants were able to enjoy a variety of activities to promote sustainable urban mobility in the city: thematic city tours, presentations, discussions, quizzes, and workshop opportunities about tactical urbanism.

The TUMIVolt Pilot Project in Lviv (GIZ), supported the EMW activities by setting the program, concepting workshops as well as by the provision of information and workshop materials.

Workshop on tactical urbanism measures

During the workshop, participants discussed ideas, how the location should be changed to become modern and more comfortable. The city planner could present the concept of the appreciation of this area and some of ideas were implemented during EMW. The workshop participants aimed that the noisy and uncomfortable intersection should ideally become

"a rest point on transit, a place to rest and a location for meetings right in the city center" workshop participants

Before renovation of the place there were installed delineators, and the next step became the place for rest.

History, construction, modern urban solutions - on the example of Bandera and Konovaltsya streets, participants could follow how architectural styles and approaches to urban planning changed from ancient times to today. The presence of educational institutions, such as the Lviv Polytechnic or the Academic Gymnasium, contributed to the fact that the district was chosen for settlement by professors who wanted to live near their place of work.
