About this Event
How does a car-centered city improve the quality of public transport service and infrastructure-- at the same time making it more equitable? Ask Jakarta, the 2021 Winner of the Sustainable Transport Award. The City’s JakLingko program has advanced seamless, interconnected transportation in the Greater Jakarta region, while several other programs have improved multi-modal transport for its millions of residents. To kick off the MOBILIZE Jakarta Virtual summit series, we invite you to our opening keynote address from Anies Rasyid Baswedan, the governor of DKI Jakarta.
JakLingko was introduced in 2017, and the program has grown into a transport success story. It has connected various transport modes, including paratransit, BRT, MRT, LRT, and commuter trains, and built more infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. But these are just the beginnings of Jakarta’s continuing work toward more sustainable and equitable transit.
During the keynote, Governor Baswedan will discuss the City’s resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges; its hopes and aims for the future; and how sustainable transport helps the city to confront climate change and social inequalities.
