The first fully digital conference this scale

TUMI TV Live on May 26th, 2020

The TUMI TV Live Conference on May 26th took stock, shared initial experiences and looked to the future: What can we learn from the COVID-19 crisis and how can we bring stimulus packages and climate protection together?

TUMI was live on May 26th

Hardly any topic ever has been affected so many people as the COVID-19 outbreak. While staying home seems to be the best answer so far, the transport sector literally keeps the world going at this crucial moment– either by transporting medical supply and food or by shuttling doctors and nurses to the hospital. On the other hand side, transport collapses in many places, endangering food supply and global supply chains.

The challenges and potential answers are divers but TUMI collects information from around the world since the beginning of the crisis and shares reactions of the transport sector globally. But many questions remain open and unresolved: Are the measures in the transport sector appropriate? What does it mean for the future of public transport? Will the economic stimulus packages strengthen climate-friendly mobility?

Topics of our High-Level digital Conference were

  • Impact of COVID-19 on Public Transport
  • How tactical urbanism can help to fight COVID-19
  • Need vs. Risk – The role of mobility in this crisis
  • The Global Perspective: COVID-19, supply chains, climate and digitalisation
  • The economic impact of COVID-19

TUMI Call for Action

Fighting the SARS-COV-2 in Transport

As the global sustainable mobility community comes together to discuss the impact of the pandemic on the transport sector with focus on developing countries and emerging economies, we have asked our TUMI members and leading mobility organization to sign the TUMI Call for Action Declaration. With this joint Declaration we are placing the vision for sustainable and resilient mobility at the heart of our response. With this declaration, we agree on the need to accelerate our joint work to put sustainable mobility at the core of our socio-economic systems. We are convinced that our partners in the community will work hard to bring this vision forward even stronger in these challenging times. With this systemic vision, the signatories pledge to harness the learnings of this global health crisis to create an even better mobility for the future, that enables sustainable development, climate protection and global health.

TUMI's Covid-19 Early Observations

On the occasion of TUMI TV on May 26 we launch this initial summary publication: it traces, documents and provides initial orientation. It documents the period early of March to early May 2020, i.e. the phase in which the COVID-19 crisis took on a global character. The paper concentrates on urban mobility, looks at the COVID-19 crisis itself, measures taken by cities and the respective potential effects. It focuses closely on sustainable mobility solutions, such as public transport, cycling and walking, shared mobility and public space development. In doing so, we document observations, facts and initial assessments.
