Maha Metro is planning to implement a mobility app for the city of Nagpur. The app will show all available modes of transportation (public and private) connecting the first mile (origin) to Metro and Metro to last-mile (destination). The app will also display multiple journey options, i.e., search results with probable cost, tentative journey time, greenest mode among all suggested options, the carbon footprint for other mode options, etc. Such a service is dependent on high-quality mobility data. Maha Metro will, therefore, build its capacity to operate and maintain the platform. Besides, the project will help to develop standardized data on the route network and schedules of all public transport modes, provide integrated maps/navigation of all public transport modes.
The city of Nagpur currently has formal city bus and informal paratransit services offering, while also building a metro line. However, these three services operate in parallel with limited integration and information for passengers, leading to operational inefficiency and lower attractiveness.
The city will collect the necessary data together with a private company and build its capacity to operate and maintain the platform. Besides creating the app, the project will help to develop standardized data on the route network and schedules of all public transport modes, provide integrated maps/ navigation of all public transport modes.
The project aims to increase public transport ridership in Nagpur through a platfrom for integrated journey planning that informs public transport users on the shortest, cheapest and most environmentally friendly public transport alternatives.
